What We Are Up Against

This page is currently under construction

On this page you will find documents that reflect or embody the vicious cluster of ideas, policies, and practices that we need to understand and respond to if we are going to be effective as advocates of social and global justice. Our projects and creative work as a research collective are a response in one way or another to the thinking you will find documented here.

The Parker Document (2010)

This is a good example of the kind of thinking that is driving the reform (read: “corporatization”) of California’s public universities. This particular document was circulated as “prereading” to a select group of individuals invited to participate in California State University, Fullerton’s strategic planning retreat on January 20, 2010. It is worth noting that very few faculty and student’s were invited to this retreat, and that the ideas presented in this document were never subjected to public discussion or debate.

A Crisis of Competence: The Corrupting Affect of Political Activism in the University of California (2012)

This is a report prepared by the National Association of Scholars, a neoconservative think tank. It was submitted to the University of California Board of Regents in spring 2012.

The Vanishing West, 1964-2010: The Disappearance of Western Civilization from the American Undergraduate Curriculum (2010)

Another neoconservative report by the National Association of Scholars.
